MR. UNIVERSE and IFBB CONGRESS

Geneva, Switzerland

The Parade of Nations

Thirty-seven (37) countries attended the IFBB Congress.

Deiana, Holland, 1st place - short class

The Medical Commission presented a report, completed by four doctoral researchers, on the effects of steroids on bodybuilders. After a year's research, the conclusions were hampered by the US government regulation which limited the amount of steroids that can be ingested by a candidate to 10mg per day. Anything over this amount was considered harmful and therefore, a violation of federal law.

The "Official Guide Book for Judges", which took 4 years to produce, was first introduced and disseminated to all National Federations.

Beckles, England, 1st place - medium class

Of major significance towards the advancement of the IFBB ideal "in sport, there are no limitations, no barriers of race, religion, politics or culture", the Union of South Africa was accepted into the IFBB family.

Ferrigno, USA, 1st place - tall class

The Congress and Championships were telecast by ABC's Wide World of Sports which commented that the IFBB "is as well run and structured as any in the sports fraternity".
