The IFBB and the "Mr. Universe" in South Africa

Thirty-two (32) countries attended the IFBB Congress.

Affiliated as new members were the following countries: Seychelles, Swaziland, Cyprus, Israel, Tunisia, Panama, Republic of Ireland, Mauritius, Rhodesia, Montserrat, and Austria. This brought the number of affiliated National Federations to 93.

In 1975, President Weider received the Order of Canada, the highest award that can be bestowed upon a Canadian citizen.

In 1975, Arnold Schwarzenegger petitioned the IFBB to establish a Professional Committee to handle this ever-growing division of the IFBB. Subsequently, Arnold was selected to head this sub-committee of the IFBB.

Also in 1975, President Weider and Oscar State were selected as members of a Steering Committee whose aim was to plan, organize and implement the first World Games. These Games would eventually be coordinated by the International World Games Association (IWGA) and become recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The World Games are comprised of sports which are not included in the Olympic Games schedule and take place every four years. The IFBB is a founding member and regular participant.

The IFBB Congress made the following decisions:

1. There will be two weight classes at the Mr. Olympia - up to and including 200 lbs, and over 200 lbs.

2. The previous height classes will be changed as follows:
a. up to and including 5'5" will be called "Lightweight".
b. over 5'5" and up to and including 5'8" will be called "Middleweight".
c. over 5'8" will be called "Heavyweight".

3. There will be no more "Overall Champion". Instead, the winners in each class will be called "World Amateur Champion".
