The Parade of Nations

Forty-one (41) countries attended the IFBB Congress.

Affiliated as new members were the following countries: Bangladesh, Columbia, Congo, Mongolia, New Caledonia, Norway, and Uganda. Total nations affiliated to the IFBB - 102.

The New York Times listed "bodybuilding" as the "fastest growing sport today".

New amendments to the IFBB Constitution were adopted which, in part:

  1. defined the terms "amateur" and "professional".
  2. allowed the awarding of the IFBB Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to the top 3 finalists
  3. solidified the 3 bodyweight categories (Light, Middle, and Heavy), and allowed the addition of a 4th category (Bantam -65kg) to Asian countries
  4. allowed for up to a maximum of 3 competitors from one country to compete in the same category
  5. allowed for 3 scoring rounds
  6. allowed the IFBB President to be the sole authority to "interpret" any dispute arising out of the Constitution and Rules
