WORLD BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS and INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS

Izmir, Turkey

Again seventy-two (72) countries participated repeating a new one year before established record. This was an Electoral Congress. All incumbent members of the Executive Council were re-elected, except for the position of vice-President, Oceania. For this position was conducted a secret ballot and Paul Graham (Australia) was re-elected.

The affirmation of the following three new members was ratified: Armenia, Turkmenistan and Nuie Island.

The Congress approved the appointment of a new Legal Councel – Steven Stern (USA); two new Patrons – Kim Nam Hak (South Korea) and Malih Alawyan (Lebanon); two new Liaison Directors – Richard Blair, north America (for a four-year term) and Vladimir Dubinin, CIS (for a one year term).

New official World Wide Web site of the IFBB at www.ifbb.com started.

Commencing 1999, a Junior Fitness category is added to the IFBB World Juniors and Masters Bodybuilding Championships.

Effective 1999, there shall be no more team posing at Championships. The las winner of this award in Izmir was the South Korean team.


Bantamweight class winner Anwar El Amawy of Egypt.


Lightweight class winner Han Dong-Ki of Korea.


Welterweight class champion Ertugrul Gulcan of Turkey.


Middleweight class winner El Sahat Mabrouk of Egypt was declared and the Most Improved bodybuilder.


Light-heavyweight class winner Hamdullah Aykutlug of Turkey emerged victorious as the overall champion.


Heavyweight class took Sergey Shelestov of Russia.
